Creative Commons

Key City Productions is offering most beats and tracks as samples protected by a Creative Commons license.

This means that most of the music you find here will be free to download, but that King Cobra retains his copyright.  More specifically, King Cobra is using a Creative Commons 3.0 License with Attribution, Non-Commercial, and Share Alike clauses.

In simpler terms, most of the tracks found here for sample download may be used for any project as long as you credit King Cobra of Key City Productions, don’t sell the tracks or beats for profit, and allow other people to use your new work in which the tracks and beats have been used to also make changes for their own purposes.

Creative Commons

Using creative commons allows for an easy method of copyright protection while also allowing royalty-free use of the tracks and beats contained on this site.

Attribution

Adding the Attribution clause allows users of these tracks and beats to download and use them in videos, music, and other projects as long as King Cobra and Key City Productions are credited.  This helps to ensure that King Cobra and Key City Productions receive the exposure they deserve.  At the same time, it allows these same works to be used without royalty fees.

Credit should be given in the form of “Track Name by King Cobra of Key City Productions” or a reasonable variation.

Non-Commercial

The Non-Commercial clause is added to most tracks and beats on this site specifically to protect King Cobra and Key City Productions from copyright infringement.  If you want to make money by selling these tracks, you need to negotiate a royalty price for the use of said track.  Otherwise, you should be able to keep the tracks or beats you use free for public consumption.

Share Alike

The final clause you will find on most of the tracks and beats at this site is a second protection for creative property.  Specifically, these beats and tracks are being made available for exposure purposes.  The more people use them, the more these tracks and beats help show the world what Key City Productions and King Cobra have to offer.  Share Alike simply states that you may use the beats and tracks of this site in your own projects for free so long as you too make your resulting projects available for free.

Exceptions

There are, of course, some exceptions to licensing on this site.  Certain tracks and beats are available as samples for your listening pleasure, but are not intended for use in any project.  This is especially true of tracks and beats from BWL’s Projects such as Cat-Life for Source.

These tracks and beats are not considered to be under a Creative Commons Licensed release.  They are considered “strict copyright” specifically because they were intended for a specific project.  The same can be said of any samples taken from ANY commissioned work or commercial products created by Key City Productions and King Cobra.

To seek the use of these works, you should contact King Cobra and discuss your needs.  Sometimes, the project or commission holder will be willing to allow use of said works if asked.  And sometimes, King Cobra can offer a creative commons licensed alternative.

Additionally, some licenses may be available with different stipulations on an as-desired basis.  Such variations include the “No Derivatives” clause which means that the work is not to be altered for use in your projects.  However, such restrictions will be rare.
